IWC Schaffhausen · ref 811 · from 1967 into the 1970s
The Yacht Club was IWC's best seller in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which is good news if you want a vintage IWC you can actually find. It launched at the 1967 Basel fair as part of a small family of sporty dress watches, alongside the Golf Club and the Polo Club, and it outsold both. It's a 36mm steel watch with broad, flared lugs, a plain dial with stick markers and a date at 3. Inside is IWC's Pellaton-wound cal. 8541, the same automatic as the Aquatimer, and from around 1970 the 8541B with hacking seconds. Don't confuse it with the Yacht Club II from the mid-1970s, a Genta-era design with an octagonal bezel and a Jaeger-LeCoultre-based movement. IWC also uses the Yacht Club name today on modern Portugieser chronographs, so filter those out of your search.
The caliber
The cal. 8541 is IWC's Pellaton-wound automatic with date, running at 19,800 beats an hour with about 40 hours of reserve. Around 1970 IWC updated it to the 8541B, which added hacking seconds. It's the same caliber that went into the Aquatimer 812, so a Yacht Club gets you that movement in a dressier case.
Polished cases and refinished dials are the usual problems. Many listings mix in the later Yacht Club II or a modern Portugieser Yacht Club, so check what you're actually looking at.
Buying guide
We'd buy the Yacht Club a Japan dealer titles overhauled with its original dial and cal. 8541B, at $2,058 delivered, just under the band. There are about 55 for sale and most ask $2,200–3,075 delivered, and 32 of the 39 we looked at ship from Japan, so compare delivered prices and allow for import duty. Make sure it's the original round 811 and not a Yacht Club II or a modern Portugieser, ask for a movement photo showing a cal. 8541 or 8541B, and check the flared lugs for polishing. Check each seller's feedback and return policy on the item page, since eBay's watch search doesn't show them.

The lowest ask on an 811 at $1,630 delivered with free shipping from Japan, about $570 under the band. It isn't titled as running, so ask for a video of the seconds hand and the date changing, and budget for possible import duty.
