Brand
Longines has been in Saint-Imier since Auguste Agassiz founded it in 1832, and its winged hourglass, registered in 1889, is the oldest unchanged trademark still active on the WIPO register. For a used buyer, the draw is how much Longines made for itself. Its own chronographs include the 13ZN, the caliber it patented the flyback on in 1936, and the 30CH that followed in 1947. Its 1950s dress lines, the Conquest from 1954 and the Flagship from 1957, ran Longines movements, and the 1966 Ultra-Chron beat at 36,000 an hour with a minute-a-month guarantee. Longines has belonged to what's now the Swatch Group since 1983. Its heritage department can check a serial number against the archive and tell you whether a watch left the factory the way it looks now, which is a real help when you're buying one.
