Movado made some of the best-looking calendar watches of the 1940s, and collectors still chase them. These triple calendars show the day and month in two windows and the date around the outer track with a pointer hand, all driven by a hand-wound Movado movement from the 470 family. The ref. 14950 Analog/Shift sold had a François Borgel steel case with a gold bezel, a screw-down back and two calendar correctors in the side, with a cal. 475SC and an early quick-set inside. Others came in 33 to 35.5mm cases in steel, two-tone and pink gold, some with coin edges and bull-horn lugs, and some steel ones have radium numerals and a blue date track. You'll see these listed as Calendograph, Calendamatic or Calendomatic, so read the movement, not the title. Dealers count Movado's 1940s and 50s triple calendars among its most sought-after watches, and a dense calendar dial in good shape is the thing to pay for.

The caliber
What the cal. 475 tells you
Movado's triple calendars are hand-wound, built on its 470-series calibers. Analog/Shift has sold Calendographs with the cal. 475 and the 475SC, both with an early quick-set, and Bulang & Sons sold a steel triple date with the cal. 470. Sellers call these Calendograph, Calendamatic or Calendomatic fairly loosely, so the movement photo matters more than the name in the title.
Some dials on this watch were painted with radium
Some original dials and hands on the Movado Calendograph Triple Calendar carry radium paint, which stays radioactive long after the glow fades. Worn with the case closed it’s generally considered low risk. The real hazard is dust from flaking paint, so leave the case shut, don’t scrape or touch the dial, and have a watchmaker who handles radium do any service.
Calendar works that skip or stick are the main mechanical worry, and parts for them are harder to find than for a plain movement. Many dials have aged badly or been refinished, and gold cases get polished soft.
01Calendar: Ask for a video advancing the day, date and month. Each should jump cleanly and line up in its window.
02Movement: Ask for a photo of the movement. It should be a hand-wound Movado from the 470 family, such as a 470 or 475.
03Dial: Look at the date track and windows in the photos. Original printing is fine and even, while refinished calendar dials often look thick or off-center.
04Lume: Check whether the numerals are luminous. Some steel examples have radium paint, so don't open or scrape them.
05Case: Look at the lugs and edges in side photos. Gold cases should still have crisp lines.

Which one to buy
§ Oct 6, 2026
We'd buy the Calendomatic titled serviced at $1,259 delivered from Australia, about $140 under the band. There are about 87 for sale and most ask $1,400–3,700 delivered, with 14K and 18K gold cases at the top and a few 18K ones asking $8,500 and up. Titles mix the hand-wound Calendograph and the bumper-automatic Calendomatic, so read the movement photo rather than the name, and ask for a video advancing the day, date and month, since calendar parts are hard to find. Check the seller's feedback and return policy on the item page, and skip the $9,957 18K ruby-dial watch, which asks over $6,000 above the band.
